we love techno blacklight & incense

Saturday night in Kansas City, the Czar Bar in Kansas City features Rob Lemon, also with Zach Jennings (also from STL), along with locals Jeffrey B and Paul DeMatteo.  We have caught his performance on numerous occasions and most recently caught up with him opening for Above & Beyond in St. Louis at Europe Nightclub for a fantastic night of music and dance.

With over a decade of experience behind the decks Rob Lemon has other rocked venues such as Vision & Spybar-Chicago, The Church-Denver CO, Late Night Empire Ballroom-Las Vegas, Kabal/Skybox-Kansas City, LaSouk-NYC and BLU Parrot-Mexico.   Rob regularly plays alongside top DJs such as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg, Christpher Lawrence, Danny Howells, & Fedde Le Grand. As well, he is regularly featured on XM Radio, Proton Radio and Frisky Radio.

In 2006 Rob formed “X -1” with music production partner Byron Thomas. Their first release “Hypnosis” was released on Curvve Recordings in February 2007 and has made a huge buzz on the progressive house charts. The Terranova & Leeds remix of Hypnosis reached #4 on the Beatport Chart where it stayed in the top ten for twelve consecutive weeks. Hypnosis has been featured by Sharam of Deep Dish on Radio One’s Essential Mix and has been played regularly by Paul Van Dyke, David Guetta, Dean Coleman, D:Fuse, Tall Paul, & DJ Dan. Currently Rob & Byron are releasing music under their own names. (RobLemon.com)

Alternatively, the Arts Asylum Basement downtown will feature “Blacklight & Incense Sessions.”  MickFinesse will be throwing down his brand of Techno, along with ZSonic with Future Bass, Bilateral Motion doing Live PA and Base Theory rounding things out with some DubStep.  The show promises a serene landscape of glowing amber, ultraviolet light, and smoldering incense dominated by the newly reconstructed META HI FI Sound System.    We were not able to dig up much information about these artists, excepting the MixCloud links their names lead to, but it sounds as if it should be quite and evening out tomorrow night!  For more information on this event, visit KansasCityTechno.com

Summer is here and there is some great music happening tomorrow night in Kansas City, one of the only best places in the country you can go out with out going broke.  So, get out and get  down.

live in slovenia

John Digweed Live in Slovenia comes from an intense peak time set recorded on March the 30th at the incredible Ambasada Gavioli in Izola. The 3rd installment, with previous sessions coming from Cordoba, Argentina that highlighted John’s deeper sound and ability to warm up the crowd and London, UK, which was an epic 5 hour journey from the start of the evening. Slovenia see’s John condensing the pure peak time essence of his mesmerizing club set into a double LIVE mix CD. Meticulously molding and mixing across House and Techno, the journey will leave you in no question that once again, John Digweed is presenting the freshest music in his unequivocal trademark style.

There is a reason why John Digweed is still at the top of his game and still regarded as one of the true pioneers of Electronic music. He’s always had a staunch refusal to follow trends, instead traveling his own path. Digweed is a true House ambassador of deep beats, dark drums, tantalizing Techno that create the true Vortex of Electronica that has become his recognized sonic signature. With festival DJ set`s at Timewarp,  Awakenings, Tomorrowlands, Movement and Electric Zoo to stand alone sold out gigs from North and South America to Australia and Asia and everything in between, Digweed is a DJ  who`s passion for his craft has made him more in demand more than ever before. As his new 12 week residency at Pacha in Ibiza over the summer illustrates. It`s John`s ability to be versatile and play a set that is tailored to each night that makes him stand out and these "Live in" mixes really capture a snapshot of what John does at some of the best parties across the world.

With tracks from true scene pioneers such as Josh Wink, Jesper Dahlbäck and Booka Shade sit side by side with new wave producers making an impact on the scene such as Danny Serrano, Coyu and George Fitzgerald. And remixes including Boys Noize, Kaiserdisco and Monika Kruse from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Sébastien Léger, Ramon Tapia, Deetron and Pig&Dan go a long way towards making this a truly versatile and genre breaking mix.

white & black gusto

Out back in the alley, she said. What?  And that is where it was, in among the dumpsters, power lines, and a gas main large enough for the surrounding buildings.  It could not have been a better setting for some down and dirty, tech/tech house from some of the best in West Missouri.  PK played a fantastic set that would have had me more than bobbing my head, had I not spent too much time behind a mower earlier that day.

Josh C picked up the pace a bit more as folks continued to arrive and move towards the curbside dance floor.    And soon as you knew about it you were fine; it was the first encounter that takes you by surprise. Rachel Fair followed up to a nearly full house and brought some vocal tracks to the house.  We had to cut early, and so did not get a chance to hear much of Richie Relax.  We know he kept the crowd and the groove though.  When we left, there was a small crowd at the end of the other alley, dancing out there.  Aside from being rather drunken, they seemed to be having a good time on their own, so we didn’t bother them with details.

Gusto is a fun little place too.  I had not been to this place since it was Karma and never even knew the back areas existed. For the most part it was the same, except for the wood floor dance floor in the front.  The only thing that confused me a bit was the drink prices.  After purchasing a cocktail from each of the three bars, the only thing that I can come up with is that there must be some sort of excise tax on the back bar.

It was a good evening out under the stars though, and we look forward to next month’s edition.  One of the organizers said they have even more sound for next month.  They might blow the roof off the place, if had one.  Be there, it is sure to be a good time.

Otherwise, you know the routine... hit the image above to see photo and video from the night.

mat zo easy

Recently signed to the renowned Astralwerks label, multi-faceted producer and remixer Mat Zo is proud to announce the release of a brand new remix EP for “Easy” in collaboration with Porter Robinson. This release directly coincides with exclusive May live tour dates across the U.S (see full routing below).

Additionally, check out the exclusive premiere of “Easy (Mat Zo’s Preprise)." It's a track taken from the forthcoming full-length due for release later this year that predated Porter’s involvement and is unavailable anywhere else.

At a mere 23 years of age, Mat Zo is the hotly tipped British electronic music star championed by everyone from Pete Tong, A-Trak, and Swedish House Mafia to Skrillex, Lifelike, Above & Beyond and more. His diverse Beatport hits on the legendary Anjunabeats label include “Bipolar”, “Superman” and “Frequency Flier.” High profile global tours, collaborations with fellow talent Arty (“Mozart”),  and a reputation as one of dance music’s most acerbic wits has seen his star climb ever higher in the past 12 months. 2013 will see him release his debut artist album on Astralwerks - which will cover everything from glitchy hip-hop and electronica to UK garage and big room club bangers.

“Easy,” a big room melodic house anthem that weds feel-good soulfulness with massive contemporary dynamics, has already reached #1 on Beatport and Hype Machine, was premiered to great acclaim on Radio 1 by Pete Tong.  Zo was also recently named MTV Clubland’s “Artist To Watch.”  The eclectic 6-track EP features a range of new remixes of “Easy” by such luminaries as Belgium-based Modek, indie darlings Lamaitre and drum n’ bass legend Andy C. The track began life as a demo for Zo’s album, until Robinson brought him on the road to tour for his successful single "Language" which sold more than 250,000 copies and hit #1 on Beatport and iTunes Dance charts.  While on the road, the solo effort turned into collaboration between two of the world’s hottest young electronic music talents, and together, Robinson and Zo have created one of the most incendiary crossover dance records of the year.
