kevens live dubstep reggae experience

photo & bio courtesy of kevens.com

Kēvens is on a quintessential mission. This 21st century, globally informed performer is the true renaissance man. Part musician, performance artist, actor, writer, reggae/ dub/rock/drum ‘n’ bass man and world citizen, he coins the ultimate mantra: “Positivity is a Necessity” .

With breathtaking skill and artistry the former DJ and MC turned singer/songwriter, strives to take people to a higher level of consciousness. An international traveler, he started his career spinning records in the clubs of South Florida but the innately poetic performer’s musical roots were more clearly witnessed when he formed the groundbreaking, progressive reggae group: Le Coup, with Bob Marley’s half brothers Richard and Anthony Booker. In fact, family matriarch Cedella Marley Booker told young Kēvens very early in his musical career: “Like a letter, you must write a song with purpose.”

This spiritual artist’s message is always at the center of his art and his life. Kēvens’ intricate concert performances and visualizations are pure conceptual theater. His goal is timeless and transcendent: to bring all races, cultures and creeds together. Kēvens is known for a beautifully lush drum ‘n’ bass amalgam of vocal dexterity and musicianship, mixed with a progressive but funky, rocking-reggae dub style and stunning dance as well as visual imagery. His knack for the timely and profound has enabled him to tour all over the world and finds him along side an eclectic array of legends and prodigies including Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Cliff, The Prodigy, DMC, KRS ONE,  Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, The Chemical Brothers, Moby, Crystal Method, Sander Kleinenberg, Sasha, John Digweed, Roni Size Reprazent, BT, Stephen and Damian Marley, Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Black Uhuru, Third World, KC & JoJo, Rabbit in the moon, Slightly Stoopid, Thievery Corporation in recent times.

blacklight & incense sessions

"Deep dance music for serious souls."  That perfectly describes Saturday night's Blacklight & Incense Sessions at The Arts Asylum.  Chill.  Deep.  Dark.  Techno.   Everyone who was there wanted to be there, and were so glad that at the end of the night they could say they were there.  Hearing techno in Kansas City again outside the club scene was a breath of fresh air.   We were there for the music.  And you should hear the speaker system that was just recently completed.  The sound moves you to your soul.  This party is sure to be a "must-attend" this summer.  Looking forward to the next one, you'll find me on the dance floor.

sirius feenixpawl

Feenixpawl is the Australian team who produced the smash singles “In My Mind” and “Universe,” and they are back for a summer tour of North America. In support of the tour, the boys are giving away their dance floor rendition of The Alan Parsons Project’s “Sirius.” Any sports fan will recognize “Sirius” as the entry song for The Chicago Bulls and (very random) former WWF superstar Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.

It all took off in 2011. Feenixpawl’s bootleg of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep hit music blogs, spreading like wildfire, gaining the boys international recognition. Then the bomb hit…the final quarter of 2011 saw the boys collaborate with Ivan Gough, one half of the legendary Australian house duo TV Rock. The talent of singer/songwriter Georgi Kay rounded out this team and together they produced “In My Mind,” an epic and emotional big room tune that Axwell immediately secured for release on his label Axtone.

Upon its release in early 2012, “In My Mind” reached Number 1 on the Beatport charts within a week. It also reached Number 2 on the HypeMachine and DMCWorld Buzz Charts. Following the success of their hit single, Kaskade asked them to remix ‘Room For Happiness’ featuring Skylar Grey from his album Fire & Ice, and Adrian Lux enlisted them to remix his hit ‘Burning’ from his self-titled album. Next on the production tip was the hit single, “Universe” that went on to be one of the biggest smashes of the fall 2012.

Feenixpawl have fast built a reputation not only for the seemingly infinite amount of energy they bring to any setting, or their innate talent to create an incredible atmosphere out of thin air, but for their intrinsic ability to produce remarkable music. Be on the look out for brand new Feenixpawl music coming soon.
